Let the fruit wait for you.

Use Pause before switching away, even though the game also pauses when hidden. A frozen scene makes it clear that you can leave without rushing a final catch.

The direction buttons avoid the need to chase fruit with a pointer. Use whichever control gives you an easy range of movement, and stop if repeated motion becomes uncomfortable.

The final count closes a complete round. Another attempt is optional, with no daily task, real-world reward or penalty for stopping.
